  Dr THI Tan Le – Chairman
Dr Thi Tan Le is currently Dean of ESP Department, College of Foreign Languages – University of Da Nang, Vietnam. He attended the Doctoral Development Program at The University of Queensland in 2001.

He has been nominated as Chairman of UQ Alumni Association of Central Vietnam since 2007. He has volunteered to devote his free time to UQ alumni activities in order to ensure ongoing alumni communications and also to maintain connection with UQ where all alumni were trained and educated
 

  Mr DUONG Canh Le - Vice-Chairman
Mr Duong Canh Le graduated from The University of Queensland in 2004 with a Master of Business majoring in International Business under the UQ/Vietnamese Universities coursework Masters Scholarship Program. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Da Nang and is doing his doctorate program at the European University, Switzerland.

He is currently Vice Director of Da Nang Investment Promotion Centre under the Da Nang People’s Committee - a service centre to cater for all international investors doing business in Da Nang. As a UQ alumnus, he has actively mentored a number of young government officers and students before their departure to UQ. 
 

  Dr LONG Van Nguyen - Vice-Chairman
Dr Long V Nguyen is currently Head of Academic Affairs at the College of Foreign Languages, University of Da Nang, where he has been working as a Lecturer since the late 90s. He received his MA in TESOL Studies from The University of Queensland in 2005. Dr Van Nguyen obtained his PhD in Applied Linguistics (specializing in Computer-Assisted Language Learning - CALL) at Massey University.

He has received a number of outstanding grants for his contributions to research. He has published widely in the areas of educational technology and communication in foreign language learning and teaching, sociocultural perspectives in language education, digital literacy, collaborative learning and language teacher education.
 

  Ms HANG Thuy Duong – Member
Ms Hang Thuy Duong was awarded an ADS Scholarship to do the Master of International Studies (International Relations) at UQ and graduated in 2009. She worked for the Foreign Affairs Department of Da Nang City for nearly ten years before moving to the Da Nang Centre for Promotion of Human Resources Development (CPHUD) in 2010 where she is currently Vice-Director. She is in charge of administrating the Da Nang Scholarship Program.

Many recipients of the Da Nang Scholarships have chosen UQ as the destination for their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Being a UQ Alumni Committee member, she particularly aims to enhance a closer connection and effective involvement of Da Nang Scholarship recipients in UQ Alumni activities. 
 

  Ms DIEU Bich Nguyen – Member
Ms Dieu Bich Nguyen is currently working as a Lecturer at the Da Nang University of Language Studies from which she graduated in 2009. One year later, she was awarded an Australian Development Scholarship and completed her Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics at The University of Queensland.

In addition to teaching, she has held the position of President of the University Students’ Union since 2012, thus ensuring all the students have access to a vibrant community where they can broaden their horizons as well as gain strong support if necessary.
 

  Ms PHUONG An Nguyen – Member
Ms Phuong An Nguyen is currently a Lecturer in the Department of English, College of Foreign Languages at the University of Da Nang. Her TESOL course at UQ took place from June 2006 to December 2007. 

Ms An Nguyen has just finished a two-year Event Management course at William Angliss Institute in Australia and looks forward to the opportunity to celebrate a varying range of events with alumni. 
 
  Mr MAN Minh Tran – Member
Mr Man Tran obtained his Master of Engineering at The University of Queensland in 2012. Currently, he is working for the Department of Planning and Investment in Da Nang. In this role, he is responsible for project evaluations and the public-private partnerships sector. 

He is also the coordinator of Vietnam Vetiver Network (VNVN), an NGO working on bio-engineering to control erosion and landslides.

Juan Pablo Schaeffer (Grad. Cert. Community Relations & Master Mediation & Conflict, 2010)

Mr. Schaeffer is Chilean and Swiss citizen based in Chile. His background is in Law at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile with further studies in Community Relations and a Masters Degree in Mediation and Conflict Resolution, both at University of Queensland in Australia. Currently, he is partner of Carcelen, Desmadryl, Guzman, Schaeffer & Tapia Law Firm and Professor and Researcher at both the Centre of Public Policy and the Faculty of Law, at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

Mr. Schaeffer is attorney at Law and Mining Consultant with vast experience working for the extractive industry, in areas of sustainability, environmental, community relations, conflict prevention and resolution, and CSR.

Congratulations to Professor Kin-Man Ho for being awarded the 2012 International Alumnus of the Year

  Professor Lawrence Ma - President

UQ Qualification Bachelor of Commerce 1992, Bachelor of Laws 1994, Master of Laws 1998

Professor Ma currently practise as a barrister in Hong Kong and he also has a strong academic background. Lawrence is well recognized as a trusts law expert in Hong Kong as he is the author of the professional text "Equity and Trusts Law in Hong Kong" as well as being the major contributor to the Trust Chapter of Halsbury's Law of Hong Kong. He has provided advice on the recent Trustee Law Reform to the Hong Kong government and has been a speaker to various professional conference in trust administration and practice. Lawrence was appointed as an Adjunct Professor by the Nankai University, Tianjin. Professor Ma is also active in Hong Kong and the Mainland China's public affairs. He was appointed as a Member of the Independent Police Complaints Council in 2010 by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR Government and as a Member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (Shanxi Province) by the Mainland Government in 2013. In November 2013, the State Council of PR China approved the appointment of Professor Ma as a Director of the China Law Society, which is the legal think tank of the Politburo. 
 

Ms Linda Caroline Lee -  Immediate Past President

Ms Linda Caroline Lee received a Bachelor of Science 1982 (major in Computer Science) and a Bachelor of Commerce 1985 both from the University of Queensland. She has worked in Brisbane Mining companies as a Programmer & IT Auditor before moving to Hong Kong in 1990 to further her career with a Big 5 & global MNCs as IT Manager & Chief Information Officer positions. Linda has been President of the University of Queensland Alumni Hong Kong for several terms since 1997 and has continued to be an active supporter. She has been a volunteer for her church and several charities in Hong Kong & China for many years.
 
Miss Angel Chung - Vice President - External

Angel currently works as a Senior Executive Recruitment Consultant, Banking and Finance in an International Recruitment Firm. She leads the Executive Research, Banking and Finance Desk. She works with a broad spectrum of clients including top tier Investment Banks, leading Corporate Banks, and retail Banks, Asset Management firms and Insurance Companies, covering middle to senior level staff for both frontline and middle / back office positions. And her personal focus is on Legal and Compliance across Asia Pacific. Angel has completed Master Practitioner in Neuro Linguistic Programming with corporate training experience to Philip Morris, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Union Hospital, etc. She is also a Mandarin/Cantonese Teacher to foreigner and a freelance photographer.
 
Miss Ponderosa Cheng - Vice President – Internal

Ponderosa Cheng is currently working in a media company as a Senior Marketing Officer. Her works is to develop new businesses as well as arranging corporate events.

Ponderosa Cheng had been obtained a Master of Marketing and a Bachelor of International Hotel and Tourism Management. She has professional experienced in media marketing and hospitality industry.

She is currently a freelance DJ in Internet Radio.
 

  Mr Raymond Cheung - Honorary Treasurer, Membership

Raymond currently works as a freelance financial consultant in risk management, corporate governance, supply chain management, accounting system and control and listing companies' matters. He is an associate member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand, The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in United Kingdom, Chartered Global Management Accountant and The Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Raymond obtained his Bachelor of Commerce (Major in accounting) and Post Graduate Diploma in Information Processing from The University of Queensland. He also attended a Certificate course in Laundering Enterprise Risk Management at The University of Hong Kong. Raymond had worked in Australia and Hong Kong with the big four CPA firms and later on moving to the commercial world. He held nine years CFO and company secretary positions in listed companies in Hong Kong and key positions in private companies. His industries coverage included textile manufacturing, fashion and shoe retailing; property investment and development.
 

 

Miss Pinky Wong - Honorary Secretary, UQ Liaison

Pinky is currently an Assistant Manager, Community Service in a charity organisation, TREATS, in Hong Kong. TREATS is the only charity organisation that focus on children social inclusion in Hong Kong, with the mission of "Give every child the chance to live and participate in an accepting and integrated society". She provides professional analysis in the database the organisation is using, and manages a fundraising team. Pinky worked as Assistant business analyst in the Advancement Office in the University of Queensland. Both of her degrees are earned from The University of Queensland.

  Mr Howard Sze - Events

Howard Sze currently works as a Financial Planner in the one of the top Insurance Company in Hong Kong. His works is helping people to evaluate their life goals through out a proper management on their finances. Financial planning enables people to know their own financial situations, setting financial goals and the way to reach the goals. Also, it provides direction and meaning to financial decisions. It allows people to understand how each financial decision they make will have both short and long term effect on their life goals. Apart from the financial planning, Howard has sometimes participated as a voluntary swimming lifesaver in weekend.

Ross Smith has been providing financial advisory services in Australia for 30 years and Hong Kong for 14 years. Ross Smith has been a Director of Shenton Limited (Kong Kong) since 2004 and Shenton Pty Ltd (Australia) since 2010. Shenton Limited (Hong Kong) is rather unique as it holds an Australian Financial Services License from ASIC. Currently, Ross is in HKU Law Faculty to research PhD in Private Equity, performs Australian Rules Football training every Saturday afternoon and pre-breakfast tennis twice per week, and enjoys live jazz music in Hong Kong and the annual Australian Jazz Convention. In the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, Ross is Vice-Chair of the Finance Law Tax Committee. Also, Ross is ex-Treasurer of University of Queensland Alumni Association, ex-Treasurer of Federation of Australian Alumni Association, a member of Hong Kong Insurance Law Association and a member of Church of All Nations, Lutheran Church in Repulse Bay and St Peters Lutheran Church in Indooroopilly Queensland.
 
 

 Miss Ida Lau - IT/Communications

Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting), 2012

Ida Lau currently works as an Assistant Accountant in the Finance Office at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. In this role she is responsible for approving payments and manual cheques, dealing with the direct purchase payments and claims from professors and students, as well as giving advices to departments based on the University Financial Procedures to avoid any non-compliance cases. Apart from the in-house accounting, Ida has previously worked at the local commercial bank and a few C.P.A. firms, major in both full-set accounting and auditing. She furthers her education by taking the professional examinations, and is now an Associate member of CPA Australia. Ida is currently helping out in the full-set accounting as a voluntary basis.

  Mr Darmawan Atmoko - Master of Property Studies, 2012

Mr Atmoko currently works for the Directorate General of State Asset Management, The Indonesian Ministry of Finance as a valuer, a position he has held since 2006. Previously he was a lecturer at the State College of Accountancy, The Agency of Finance Education and Training, The Indonesian Ministry of Finance. He subject areas were Asset Valuation and Property and Asset Management. Prior to that Mr Atmoko was a Business Analyst of System Information Management for the Directorate General of State Claims and Auction – The Indonesia Ministry of Finance.
 
Mr Simon Chambers - 
Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, 1980

Mr Chambers is currently a Marketing Advisor with PT. Swadiri Cipta Abadi. In this role he provides asset management and heavy equipment consultancy services to primarily the mining industry across the SE Asia, Subcontinent, Africa, South America & Australia regions. Mr Chambers has 33 years’ experience in primarily Asset Management related to coal & iron ore mining initially in Australia and previously spent time in a sales and marketing role with Hitachi's mining equipment Dealer/OEM (Hexindo Adiperkasa) in Indonesia and for the last two years has been leading a mining start-up entity (INTA Resources) within the INTA Group. He has spent almost 19 years of his working life in Indonesia.
 
Mr Akhmad Firmannamal - 
Master of Communication, July 2012

Mr Firmannamal is currently the Head of Sub Division of State Institution Liaison Bureau, State Secretariat of Republic Indonesia in Jakarta. He has previously held the following roles: Analyst of State Institution Liaison Bureau; Promotion Department of Panatrade Caraka (SPECS), Jakarta; and Teacher/Lecturer at Phoenix School, Jawa Tengah. Mr Firmannamal holds degrees in Communications and Social and Behavioural Sciences from The University of Queensland and Universitas Jendral Soedirman. 
Dr Bermawi Iskandar - Master of Engineering Science, 1989 PhD Mechanical Engineering, 1993

Dr Iskandar obtained BSc (1981) and MSc (1985) degrees in Industrial Engineering from Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia, and MEngSc (1989) and PhD (1993) degrees from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, The University of Queensland. He is currently a Professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering, Bandung Institute of Technology, and Vice Dean, Faculty of Industrial Technology, ITB. His research interests include Product warranties, Maintenance and reliability models, Maintenance service contract, Facilities layout design and Lot sizing models for a supply chain system.
Mr Trijatmiko (Miko) - Master of Communication, 2010

Mr Trijatmiko (Miko) currently works at the Ministry of Forestry in Jakarta. Trijatmiko chose to pursue a Master’s in Communication since he had prior experience in radio stations and saw the possibility of his degree contributing to the needs of the Ministry in the future. During his studies in Australia, Trijatmiko served as a committee member for The University of Queensland Indonesian Student Association (UQISA). Trijatmiko has been involved in many tasks set out by the Ministry of Forestry, in particular ones related to statistics. Since February 2011, Trijatmiko has also served as one of the web administrators for the official Ministry of Forestry website – his responsibilities include managing the content of the website, handling queries addressed to the Ministry and organising publication materials.
 
Mr Adi Lazuardi - Master of Business Administration, 2008

Mr Lazuardi Imran, who goes by his nickname “Adi”, graduated from the University of Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh in 1999 with a Bachelor in Agriculture, majoring in Agribusiness. Upon the completion of his studies, he went to Jakarta to continue his Master’s at IPMI Business School and graduated in 2001 with a Master of Management. After graduating, being a Banker at a private Bank in Jakarta was his first step along his career ladder. Mr Imran graduated from UQ with a Master of Business Administration; and in 2009 he was offered a job at Australia Awards Indonesia, which manages the Australian Government Scholarships for Indonesia. 
 

Ms Alia Lindasista - Master of Commerce, 2011

Ms Lindasista currently manages downstream strategic planning in the Investment Planning & Risk Management division of PT Pertamina (Persero) in Jakarta. She received a Bachelor of Economics (Financial Management) from the University of Padjadjaran and a Master of Commerce from The University of Queensland. In 2010-2011 Ms Lindasista was the Treasurer for University of Queensland Indonesian Students Association (UQISA) and Deputy Treasurer for IISB (Indonesian Islamic Society of Brisbane). She received scholarships from PT Pertamina (Persero) and AusAID to complete her education.
 
  Dr Adrianus Meliala - PhD Sociology, 2004

Dr Meliala is a Criminologist at the University of Indonesia, a Commissioner of the National Police Commission, and an Adviser to the Minister of Law and Human Rights on Detention. He holds a Bachelor of Criminology (1990), and a Master of Science in Social Psychology (1993), from the University of Indonesia and another Master of Science in Forensic Psychology (1994), from the Manchester Metropolitan University, UK and a PhD in Criminology (2004) from The University of Queensland. He has been the Adviser to the Police Chief of Indonesia; Expert to Attorney General on Cases of Gross Violation of Human Rights in Indonesia; and Head of Department, Department of Criminology, the University of Indonesia. 
 

Ms Elisabeth Prabawati - Master of Food Studies, 2009

Ms Prabawati received a Master of Food Studies from The University of Queensland and a Bachelor of Agricultural Technology from Bogor Agricultural University. Ms Prabawati is currently a Lecturer in the Food Technology Department at the Swiss German University. She teaches food microbiology and other related subjects such as food biotechnology and industrial sanitation. She supervises Bachelors’ thesis projects, specializing in food microbiology, probiotic product development and antimicrobial application. She is also involved in food science projects and community service.

Chrissy Priya Chandran (President)

Chrissy Priya graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Film & TV studies in 2003. She has taught languages, and has worked in Advertising and PR. She is currently the director of Oklahoma City University in Singapore. She has been with UQAAS as the database manager for the last two years and looks forward to serving her alumni.

David Ow Jian Wei (Vice President)

David graduated with a Bachelor of Business Management with a major in Marketing in 2009. He has served as a treasurer and secretary in UQAAS. Being in the alumni committee for the third year running, he has shared his experiences of life in Brisbane as well as 'Dressing for Success' at various UQAAS events. He is currently with the Acquisition Marketing department of Citibank International Personal Bank Singapore. The department caters to clients from around the world. He runs marketing campaigns as well as organizes dinners and special events for high net-worth individuals.

Karen Low (Secretary)

Karen graduated with a Bachelor in International Hotel and Tourism Management in 2009. She now works in the marketing and business development arm of PricewaterhouseCoopers Singapore, planning and executing client engagement activities for family and owner-managed businesses. She has served a year in the UQ Alumni Singapore committee and continues to be a part of the team for 2013/2014.

Elvin See (Treasurer)

Elvin graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor in Information Technology (Hons). Shortly after his graduation, he joined Deloitte Consulting as a Consulting Analyst focusing in Technology Consulting. He had a very good experience studying in UQ and he hopes to share this experience with the alumni. Elvin is also a foodie and technology enthusiast who always keeps up with the latest technology trends.

Isaac Spencer Joseph (Database Manager)

Isaac graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 2010. He presently is the Lead Engineer with the Republic of Singapore Air Force. Isaac has been with the alumni for a year and has successfully executed many interesting events for alumni members. This year Isaac will be serving as the Database Manager. He is happy to be part of the Singapore Alumni chapter and looks forward to contributing in whatever way he can.

James Tan (Events/Media Officer)

James is our most recent graduate and joins the alumni committee as its new member in charge of Corporate Sponsorship. James graduated in Commerce in 2012 and is currently working with BNY Mellon as a fund accountant. James enjoys catching up with friends, hosting board game events, movies, finance, technology and cars.

Dr Jasmine Pang (Corporate Sponsorship)

Jasmine is a Senior Clinical Psychologist and Adjunct Assistant Professor at Changi General Hospital and NUS respectively. She is infectiously engaging and has been with the alumni for the last two years. Jasmine is currently the committee’s person in charge of Events.  

South East Queensland

The UQ Alumni Association of Southern Vietnam (UQAASV) was established to represent the alumni community in Southern Vietnam.

The Association was developed to assist graduates continue their engagement with the University and to create social, networking and professional development opportunities.

Mr THANH Vu Do – (President)

Since 2008 Mr Do is Director, Engineering Functions for the Saigon Premier Container Terminal (SPCT) – a joint venture between Dubai Port World (DPW) of UAE and a local partner. SPCT is a professional container terminal operator with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities in South Vietnam.

Prior to this (2004 - 2008), he was a manufacturing plant manager for a large scale factory of Unilever Vietnam Ltd. Unilever is an international FMG (fast-moving-goods) company with variety of products for personal and home care.

Mr Do graduated from UQ as a Master of Project Management in 2003.
