I chose to study at UQ and at the engineering department because they have a very good reputation on an international scale. Ultimately, I'd like to use my degree to bring about positive change within the minerals industry and to inspire sustainability.

Studying at UQ offered an excellent grounding for my future career, the course was not all theory and lecture rooms, and there was a lot of interaction with industry leaders and the teaching staff are knowledgeable, practical and thought provoking.

The most enjoyable element of my work is that I am able to use a range of skills every day in a positive and constructive work environment. UQ helped improve my research and analytical skills and the teamwork experience which gave me the edge over other applicants.

Throughout my study I was looking at the industry, particularly thinking about potential employment as a graduate. The School of Tourism's Executive Shadowing Program was a big step forward for me, it helped me step into the industry and to start making networks.

I studied a BA Chinese at UQ. In my BA I also did several Business and IT subjects, as I knew the mix would be beneficial one day. I graduated in 2001. UQ gave me a lot of options and was a very nice place to study, hang out with friends, meet new people and attend loads of events.
James O'Donnell, BA 2001. Meet more of our alumni.
The UQ program gave me the opportunity to flesh out my thinking on various aspects of peacebuilding by testing it against well-established theories of conflict resolution and peacebuilding, and also through conversations and interactions in the faculty.
