UQ alumnus awarded Harvard Fellowship

Fulbright Scholarship for Business School alumnus
Dr Choo was awarded the prestigious award early this year – the 2009 Fulbright Professional Australia/U.S. Alliance Studies Scholarship sponsored by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade – and will undertake research into the current and future trends in cybercrime at Rutgers University's School of Criminal Justice in New Jersey, and the Palo Alto Research Centre in California. Plans for the Centenary Alumni Reunion Weekend in July 2010 are gathering momentum! The UQ Alumni team is planning a weekend that will be of interest to all our alumni, so save the date in your diaries now now – July 2–4, 2010. Grace College to celebrate 40 years during the UQ Centenary Alumni Reunion Weekend
Over the weekend of July 2–4, 2010 Grace College will be celebrating their 40th anniversary. In preparation for the event, Principal Dr Sue Fairley needs your assistance in locating photos that are missing from their historical collection. Are you a graduate of 1987, 1988, 1992 or 1993? Graduate e-cohort study
School of Nursing and Midwifery alumni are invited to participate in the graduate e-cohort study, a five-year longitudinal study investigating the work choices and attrition rates of nurses and midwives following graduation. Run in collaboration with universities in Canada and New Zealand, this is the largest study of its type ever undertaken. Participants complete a 15 minute online survey annually for five years. Any SONM alumni who would like further information on the study, please contact the Project Manager, Susan Kellett.

Emmanuel College Rugby Dinner & launch of rugby scholarship – July 24, 2009
Emmanuel rugby players past and present, and anyone else with a connection to the college who enjoys and supports rugby, will join together on July 24 to salute the game and celebrate Emmanuel’s fine rugby tradition. Additionally, the college is working hard to improve its alumni database. “Enterprise and the Entrepreneur – Making the Dream a Reality” – August 14, 2009
All UQ alumni are invited to attend the second Backpack to Briefcase Career Breakfast seminar, to be held on Friday August 14 at 7am. Find out how to create an entrepreneurial culture, form mentoring relationships in the marketplace, and turn commercialisation concepts into marketplace reality. More information available here.

UQ will be hosting alumni and business receptions in Beijing on Tuesday September 8, Shanghai on Thursday September 10, Guangzhou on Friday September 11, and Hong Kong on Saturday September 12. All alumni in these cities are invited to attend and will receive an official invitation by early August. More information available on the Alumni and Community events page soon.

UQ will be hosting a reception in Melbourne this year in anticipation of our 2010 Centenary Celebrations. Save the date in your calendars – Tuesday October 6, 2009. Career breakfast series gets off to a flying start
Over 170 UQ alumni and students attended the first "Backpack to Briefcase" career breakfast seminar in May. The partnership between the Advancement Office and UQ Careers and Graduate Employment facilitated the opportunity for students and alumni to obtain first-hand advice on career planning and employment strategies in the current economic climate.
