Dr Lee Boon Yang, Singapore's Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, originally trained as a veterinary scientist at UQ.

Dr Lee has served in different ministerial posts in the Singapore government since 1986.

His previous roles have included: serving as Minister of State for Trade and Industry; Minister of Labour; Minister of Manpower; Senior Minister of State for National Development; Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs; and Senior Minister of State for Defence.

In 2003, Dr Lee received UQ's International Alumnus of the Year award at a special graduation ceremony in Singapore on September 23.
