Henrik Christiansen

Henrik ChristiansenDynamic, fast-paced and diverse are not the first words to pop into most people’s minds when they think of the horticultural industry. But for many professionals, this is exactly what a career in the horticultural industry involves.

Henrik Christiansen knows only too well how exciting this industry is. Working for Oolloo Farm Management, a division of OneHarvest, Henrik’s primary focus is on developing new projects. OneHarvest is a category leader in product development, being a pioneer in the fresh and prepared foods market in Australia.

Henrik started with The Harvest Company, the trading division of One Harvest, straight out of university as National Procurement Manager, before moving to Horticultural Development, where he was focused on the development of the supply chain from the seed to shelf.

Henrik then moved on to manage New Business Development, where he focused on broadening the new business opportunities for the company up and down the supply chain. One of these projects saw Henrik involved in the very first harvest of the Calypso mango crop. In 2007, Henrik commenced his current position as New Business and General Manager Farming – Melons with Oolloo Farm Management, the farming division of One Harvest.

“Now as an employer, I look to employ agribusiness students because of the process they go through in their course and the foundation that this gives them. I have been that impressed with quality of the course that I commissioned a market research project this year,” Henrik said.

“There is more to agribusiness than one might think; it’s not all about crop production. Yes, this sector of the industry plays an important part of the agricultural industry. But production is by no means the be all and end all, there are many sectors up and down the supply chain which are just as important”.
